Solid Colors = Solid Look
My formal days are beginning to look a lot like my informal days and for me…this is a good thing! The Athlete meets the Gentleman! I LIKE IT! “The Comvertable Gentleman” is in full effect! I’m Layering 3 Jackets today! The KEY is to have a nice light Base Layer, a solid mid-range Transition Layer, and a nice Tailored Top Layer! Started with my Black/White, Cole Haan Zerogrand Wingtips ($278), then my Navy, Banana Republic Joggers ($40 SALE), my Sean Jean Crew Neck T-Shirt from Ross ($10 SALE), my Nike Running Dri-Fit ($10 SALE), next there’s the 3 jackets: My Nike Track Jacket ($20 SALE), my Nike Golf Jaket ($30 SALE), and my Navy, Express Top Coat ($278). “LIVE ABOVE IT!”
“Don’t wear white after Labor Day.” Okay…WHY? Exactly. This “rule” much like many other societal norms that we subscribe to without challenging the validity thereof (Ooops, nerd moment) is not based in anything substantial. It is merely the opinion of a person that was considered to be a Fashion Icon. Well, today we have our on brains and with those brains we are beginning to blaze our on trails! It’s a myth people. If you want to wear White then wear White. Heck, you don’t question it when it comes Black ( insert Kermit sipping tea here). So today took my Summer White and made it my Winter White. And the results are on display. LET IT SNOW! Rockin’ my Gray, Cole Haan Zerogrand Wingtips ($278), my White, Levi Jeans from Macy’s ($25 SALE), my favorite vintage belt ($FREE.99), my Sean Jean Crew T’ from Ross ($10 SALE), my Gray, Merona Zip-Up Cardigan, my Navy, Express Top Coat ($270), and my Gray/Black, Banana Republic Vest ($40 SALE). “LIVE ABOVE IT!”
Today I’ll be very mobile so I wanted something Comfortable. Last year I coined the phrase, “Comvertable Gentleman.” Well, this is what it’s all about. Rockin’ my Gray, Cole Haan Zerogrand Wingtip shoes ($278), my Black, American Stitch Joggers from Saks Off 5th Ave ($40 SALE), I layered the look with my White, Sean Jean Crew Neck T’ from Ross ($10 SALE), Gray, Converse T’ from Target ($12), and my Red, V-Neck Merona Sweater ($20). The Key is to Layer T-Shirts. We generally don’t think about Layering T-Shirts, but you can! And it makes for a nice look. It creates a nice pattern around the neck and it’s great for Joggers. If you can, have the bottom T’ be a bit longer than the top. To finish this look I threw on my Royal Blue, Nike Golf Coat ($20 SALE). This made for a really nice Contrast! Just call me SUPERMAN! “LIVE ABOVE IT!”
Well HAPPY THANKSGIVING people! Excuse me while I take a moment to consider all that God has done for me… … … … … … … … … … … … …sorry, He’s done A LOT! LoL
Now for the reason we’re all gathered here today…THE STYLE! Maroon and Thanksgiving go together like Turkey & White Meat…sorry, I’m a little off my game because I’m ready to EAT! LoL But you get the idea. So I decided to anchor today’s fit in that color palette. REMEMBER: You always want to have Focal Point. My Focal Point today is my Maroon Cardigan.
First of all we must start with the kicks. No surprise here. Rolling with my current MVP’s, my Cole Haan Zerogrand Chukkas! They have a Moccasin feel to them which just seems right on Thanksgiving. Shout out to Geronimo! LoL I’m telling you, these kicks are the epitome of VERSATILE! $278
Of course I must reach for my Saks 5th Avenue, American Stitch Joggers today! Definitely going to need the expandable WAIST LINE! LoL And then I can nap in peace because of the comfort. REMEMBER: You would traditionally wear a pair of Tweed dress pants with a fit like this, but the key to Joggers is simply plugging them in. It’s scary, but you’ll get the hang of it. $40 (Sale)
As for the top half, I’m rockin’ my Plaid, Merona, Button Up from Target atop of my favorite Converse T’ (which you can’t see) and then topped off with my Merona Cardigan. Super comfortable, super Stylish, Super Functional! A pop of the collar and you have an automatic scarf. It’s not hot out there today, that’s for sure. REMEMBER: Untuck that shirt! It just works. T’ $12 BU $20 C $25
NOW FOR LAYERING LESSON #3!!!
Now for an old friend! Got this bad boy in COLLEGE! I’m talking 03′! LoL A friend of mind moved and left it behind. Hey, Don’t judge me, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” right? RIGHT! LoL Plus he owed me, but we want get into the details, at least as far as that story goes, back to the point! Apparently Corduroy is in this Fall/Winter season and now is a perfect opportunity to break out mine. This is a Vintage blazer so it’s a one of a kind. I mean it was made by a company called “Machine?” LoL There are holes in the pockets and it’s a bit baggy, buy atop of a few layers it fits just fine. REMEMBER: It’s all about Perception! PATTERNS are an important part of BALANCE and the Corduroy Vs Plaid contrast is a Super one! $FREE.99
Next, throw a Vest (Merona) over your Blazer and you get a nice combination of Patterns & Textures. Plus it’s warmth without the big coat. The Greenish/Brown color adds some POP too the otherwise mundane fit. $25
Finally, I’m throwing my H&M skull cap over my doobie and switching out my glasses for shades and I’m off to PARADISE! LoL WOOOOOO!!! $5
Alright fellas, that’s it. Go be with the ones you Love and HOLLA’ at those who you can’t be with. LoL Gobble, Gobble baby…Gobble, Gobble. #Fin.
