“MARCH MADNESS” is in full swing which means I’m going to pretend to have some inkling of an idea as to how these games are going to pan out. LoL But this means business! So I’m dawning my 3rd “Street Suit” in order to properly fill out my Bracket. Today I’m adding my Shawl Cardigan to the mix because it’s going to be a bit colder today than our past few unseasonably Miami days. I’ll let you in on a little secret, I’m actually rocking two base layers beneath all this swag. LoL A Tank Top & a T-Shirt give me the extra barriers of protection I need against the chill in the air today. Anyway, refer to the 2 previous posts for details. “LIVE ABOVE IT!”
SHOES: Cole Haan Zerogrand Wingtips $300 | JEANS: GAP by En Noir Moto Jeans $80 | SHIRT: Express $30 | TIE: Macy’s by M151 $10 | CARDIGAN: GAP Shawl Cardigan $25 | BLAZER: Mossimo $60 | BELT: Ross $12
What’s going on brothas’!? Yes. I know it’s been a hit minute, but I’d rather it be hot than cold. LoL anyways, today it’s suppose to snow, I guess Old Man Winter hasn’t gotten over his cold yet SMH, so I decided to rock’ a look that I came up with during last week’s ice storm. Men’s Style has really adopted this Post World, layered, flowy look. I find the key to be varying the lengths of your tops to draw attention to the details of the mid-section like the details around the neck. What I did was cross my scarf so that it overlapped and then put it underneath my BR Shawl Cardigan. And BAM! A SUPER SLEEK LOOK! Add my Express Top Coat for that final layer of varying length and the rest is history. “LIVE ABOVE IT!”
BOOTS – Cole Haan Lunargrand | $278 JOGGERS – American Stitch $40 | SCARF – Express $30 | CARDIGAN – Banana Republic $40 | TOP COAT – Express $278
A couple of rare details today. I’m wearing a tie AND I buttoned the top button! LoL I don’t know, I was just feeling a bit Dapper today. So I reached for my Black, M-1 Skinny Tie ($10) from Macy’s and coupled it with my Merona, Plaid Button-Up from Target ($25). Then I finished it with my Maroon, GAP Merona Shawl Sweater($20 SALE) and Gray, Mossimo Blazer ($70. Of course I’m wearing Zerogrands ($278) and I chose my Khaki, Express Joggers ($40 SALE) to add a bit of edge. “LIVE ABOVE IT!”
Looks like the sun had some trouble gettin’ out of bed this mornin’ too! LoL However this did create a nice Blue effect to compliment my Royal Blue, Merona V-Neck Sweater from Target ($20)! Go figure. Like Tim Gunn says, “MAKE IT WORK!” Keepin’ it cool with my Gray, Cole Haan Zerogrands ($278), Express, Rocco Skinny Denim Jeans ($80), Gray, Shawl Cardigan from The GAP ($10 SALE), and Gray, Mossimo Blazer from Target ($70)! Of course we top it off with the Express Top Coat ($278). Once again, “Sweater on Sweater Violence” is great for Layering! “LIVE ABOVE IT!”
Cold out there today so I’m gonna layer up, but in a slightly different way. For starters I’m rockin’ my Gray Zerogrands ($278) Then I’m keeping it comfortable & warm with my Tweed, GAP Photographer pants ($40), Next I’m rockin’ one of my favorite Shawl sweaters by Merona from Targhetto ($30)! LoL Now here’s where it gets tricky! I’m adding another sweater to the mix in the form of my Cream, Banana Republic, Zip-UP, Shawl Cardigan ($40 SALE)! Once again, the key is to think of your Cardigans as Blazers. No need for a scarf today fellas. Finally, top it all off with a nice, tailored Top Coat from Express ($278)! Shades on “FLEEK!” LoL “LIVE ABOVE IT!”
It’s time for Layering Lesson #2! Today I’m going to show you how to layer with outerwear. I didn’t realize this until today, but I layer outerwear a lot! Typically layering pertains more to shirts, sweaters, cardigans, & blazers, but I tend to layer my outerwear. No harm, but if you’re going to do it…do it right.
I started with the basics. It’s cold outside so I’m actually wearing long johns. LoL A little trick I’ve been doing for years. Undetectable and oh so warm! You wouldn’t have know if I didn’t tell ya’ 😉 You’re welcome. Rockin’ my Cole Haan Zerogrand Chukkas ($278) I could have went with the wingtips or Lunargrands, but I wanted a more rugged look, my GAP, tweed dress pants ($20/sale), and my red, Merona, v-neck sweater from Target ($25). A solid look by itself. But let’s take it to another level.
First I reach for my vintage, St. John’s Bay blazer/shawl/cardigan/thinga’ ma’ jiggy’. LoL Seriously, I don’t even know what this is, but I remember purchasing because it was just so unique. I don’t even remember wear I got it, but I think it was in the ATL. The collar eliminates the need for a scarf and the over sized brown buttons are a nice eye catcher. Looks like something that belongs in London. Love it. It’s important that this piece is underneath, because it is the scarf so to speak & it is acting as my suit coat for today.
Next I reach for my GAP Denim Jacket! Perfect outward layer to house the heat of the blazer/cardigan. I’m definitely going to rock this look alone soon, but I want to push the outfit a bit more today. Now normally I pop the collar on this jacket, but I want the blazer/cardigan’s collar to shine so I won’t today. Remember, you want to draw people’s eye to specific details. Not throw it all at them at once. Michaelangelo…not Jackson Poll0ck. $40
Finally I TOP it all off with my favorite Top Coat from Express. Notice how the denim and sweater are barely noticeable, but add so much to the look. Every man needs to own tailored outerwear. You can be dressed like a straight up bum, but if you throw that tailored outerwear over the top…immediate respect. Now here’s a tip: All this outerwear is just as warm as a Bubble Coat layered, BUT together they look 10Xs better! $278
Now, you see how bright the sun is shining today, so let’s do something about these glasses.
Add in my beanie and VOILA! I’m ready to roll!
At ease gentleman. #Fin.
